The number of reported high school guidance counselors per district. This does not include social workers and other support staff.
Counselors spent an estimated 6.4 hours with each of their students per year. There was no metric for support staff at the release of the 2018 GPS4Kids Baseline Report.
Time counselors and support staff spend one-on-one with students drives positive learning outcomes.
We will identify gaps in equitable access to personnel across the county by comparing the estimated time counselors spend with students, as stated above, to the actual time spent with students.
All Westchester high school students have an appropriate number of guidance counselors and/or social workers to reflect best practices.
Actions & outcome progress:
We now have access to data for support staff that we can analyze in a similar fashion.
We will continue to work with local districts to report an accurate number of guidance hours Westchester County students receive annually, and if that is enough.
